October Recap.

JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ JAZZ.

I genuinely believe that this October was my busiest month this year. We have a lot to get through so let’s get to it.

First of all, I was blessed with the presence of my friend Laura from Dublin. I had not seen that girl since September of 2023, so it was so so so nice to have a little catch-up. Not a surprise to anyone but the weather that day was shocking so we didn’t do much apart from grabbing a coffee and chatting shite until it was time for her train. A short, but sweet meeting!

Now I know I said in my previous post that I was going to dilute the frequency of going out, but it’s October, how can you not socialise! The pressure of college hadn’t caught up with me yet (it did, but I ignored it). I hate admitting it, but in my old age (22), I’m slowly starting to appreciate a wine night rather than a continuous night going out, but this is probably due to my energy levels being at an all-time low from college. Either way, I will always rally because I want to be able to look back at these moments when I’m elderly and have no regrets.

After one of these nights out, our hearts craved two things: the ocean and a pub (the cause is the cure we always say), and we headed to Kinsale to fulfil our cravings. We went into the Bulman where the food was outstanding. I got the classic hangover meal for myself; the greasiest, most flavoursome and loaded burger. I have tears in my eyes thinking about that burger. Des had the same as me, but I will admit that Callum’s dish was next level; Mussels in a nduja sauce. Game. Changer. Honestly, my tastebuds were elevated that day and I think I’m still chasing that dragon since.

On a more sad note, it was time to say goodbye to my Macbook. She had served me well since I purchased it in my fifth year of secondary school, but for some reason, she decided that just as I was getting into the nitty gritty of my master's to start acting up. If you were in the Boole, there was a 100% chance you could hear my laptop overheat from the other end of Q3. The only good thing was that I upgraded to the most recent Macbook that had been released at the time, so there was no more overheating, a hell of a lot more space, and I was finally able to run Sims 4 again without my laptop having an actual meltdown!! It also just eliminated any lagging I had when typing out my assignments for college yay!

Speaking of college, placement searching had commenced this month, which meant, unfortunately, I had to create my LinkedIn account for the business world. I type this with a heap of reluctance because I just can’t get behind having an account where I’m not able to 100% express myself. Of course, it is me writing the posts, but I’m not able to get my personality across and that’s like 90% why I even get opportunities anyway. I’m going to refrain from posting on there for a while. I know I want to end up in a social and creative job, and I believe that I could even use this website as a little portfolio if I decided to add my graphic designs or photography. One day who knows sure! I’m too swamped at the moment to do that.

ALSO such a random one but I FINALLY got a semi-decent photo taken of me in the Bróg!!! I will take all the wins I can get.

This month, Cork city lost another gay man over 6ft to Australia. I’m of course talking about Joe :(. It felt really weird going to his goodbye party because I think he was one of my close friends who had emigrated. I know others who have done the same thing, but I hadn’t been as close to them as I was to Joe. I’m delighted for him, don’t get me wrong, it’s just crazy how we’re getting to the age where events like these happen and are only going to get more common.

Final few bits; I graduated babyyyyyyyyyy. If you didn’t know, I graduated with a degree in World Languages from UCC. ALL over the Instagram stories let me tell you. No one was safe from this information. It was such a sentimental time looking back because I got to see everyone in my course again like you guyyyyyys I missed ye. After I want to say about 100 fittings, I was wearing my ideal suit; navy pinstripe with a bright red tie. Very retro-coded which was my intention.

ANNNND ladies and gentleman we had the main event of the month (graduation does not even come close to this), October Jazz Weekend. It’s the only time of the year where you can wear a suit and not be judged for it (catch the reference?). We stayed near North Main St. and Daunt Square for the most part, bumping into friends by chance, listening to beautiful music accompanied by beautiful drinks. Perfect way to end the month!

And once again, 3 things I would have told myself at the start of this month:

  1. Do not get stressed about finding placement, and be picky! This is where you’ll be working for some time, so make sure you will be happy with your decision. What’s for you will never pass you.

  2. Save yourself SO much time and trust your gut and just buy that first suit you loved. You ended up buying that one in the end, so you’ll end up wasting precious study time.

  3. Get those assignments in on time because you went out with an assignment due the next day, and we all know that is not a fun combination.
