September Recap.
Okay big boy time now, september officially marked the beginning of my master's. The first few days were an absolute whirlwind. Between working, getting all my stuff prepped for college and the several final big nights out, I was finally coming to terms with saying goodbye to my social life.
The first day was just how you’d expect; looking around at your new coursemates to see if you knew anyone. I thank god every day I’m sociable because to be in such a big hall with a bunch of new people would seem like a nightmare. Having Kristina by my side tho was SUCH a big bonus (pro tip: secretly inform your friends about your life plans so they will subconsciously join you). Anyway, we had to do the whole self-introduction and a fun fact about yourself (mine was about my vinyl collection, very riveting I know I know). After that, the lecturer SPED through our curriculum for the first semester. She was able to put down 3 chapters of a 12-chapter module in just 2 and a half hours. Looking back it was a blur because what do you mean we already had a quarter of this module done? ALSO, I know I said I would say goodbye to my social life and take college seriously but come onnnnnnnn it’s only the first week/ month. I had to! The other modules were cool too! It seems like it is going to be a tortuous semester but I’m happy with my choices (I feel I could live to eat my words).
A non-alcohol-related activity I got up to was that I went to Fota with Cal and Des. was very wholesome I truly forgot how much I loved capybaras omg. No word of a lie, the last time I was in Fota was either in 5th or 6th year of secondary school for a biology field trip. It was genuinely going great until we got to the kiosk and I heard the words “Are you not going to say hi to me?”. Time froze, my sweat turned cold, and every single thought that was able to be thought out flowed through my head. I have not looked up to see who this was yet. Was it someone I kissed? Was it a relative? Was it an ex? No to all three of those, but so much worse. An ex-employee of the chipper where I would go after a night out. Do you know how often I would need to frequent a chipper for them to remember me in a SOBER state? Of course, it was not let go by the lads they still talk about it today.
We also headed down to Barleycove for one night which was so nice (aka it was drinking but with a sea view). The next morning was glorious so after Jamie cooked up the perfect Irish breakfast, it obviously called for a walk down to the beach for a swim. Unfortunately good things never last and it was back to reality come Monday and I returned to my studies:((((. There was a career fair during the last week of September and as you can see Eleanor and I were networking like our lives depended on it.
Other than that September was very very tame. I have a tingling feeling it will be like this for the foreseeable. Seeing as I’m writing these at the end of each month I think it would be nice to write three things I would have told myself at the start of the month. So, without further ado:
Don’t worry about the first week of college. Getting all that information at once can be overwhelming, but you’ll be able to divide the work down quickly.
Maybe don’t wear those really tight boxers that had restricted blood flow to your balls that you needed to get prescribed medication for to reduce swelling.
Do not buy that denim beret I genuinely don’t know what was going through your mind when you added that to the basket.
